The other day China National Intellectual Property Administration released the second batch of typical cases of boosting rural revitalization with geographical indications, including 80 representative cases of outstanding performance selected from across the country for publicity and promotion. Seven cases filed by Jiangsu, including ‘“Dongtingshan Biluochun Tea’ brings people wealth based on four measures and activates industrial revitalization” and “‘Zhenze Silk’ makes the countryside new and brilliant” were included in the list.

In recent years, the Intellectual Property Office of Jiangsu Province firmly implemented the deployment requirements of the State, the Provincial CPC Committee and the Provincial People’s Government with respect to geographical indication, made great efforts in development and protection of geographical indications, and actively explored new approaches to rural revitalization based on geographical indications, having formed a batch of advanced models prospering and enriching peasants, including Xuyi Lobsters and Dongtingshan Biluochun Tea. Geographical indications are playing an increasingly important role in serving rural revitalization, expanding featured industries and bringing more income to peasants, among other aspects. Up to date, the Province has totally 91 products of geographical indications, and 420 registered geographical indication trademarks, in which 14 geographic indication brands, such as Xuyi Lobsters and Zhenjiang Vinegar, are included in the catalogue of China-EU agreement on geographical indications. It is approved to construct 7 national demonstrative protection areas of geographical indication products (including Yangshan juicy peach), with 8 geographical indication products (such as Gaoyou duck eggs) included in the national catalogue of key geographical indication products subject to promotion instruction. The annual output value of geographical indications and related industries in the province has exceeded CNY 200 billion, and 15 million jobs are created, which are significant contributions to the local economic and social development.

Next, Jiangsu will take the chance of publicizing and promoting typical cases to further explore superior resources of geographical indication, and make timely summarization of exemplary empirical practices; it will also extend to “geographical indications + Internet”, “geographical indications + cultural tourism”, “geographical indications + industrial fusion” and other novel measures, develop a batch of high-quality featured geographical indication brands, and form a portfolio of highly-fused, demonstrative and rewarding industrial development highlands, so as to provide strong supports for rural revitalization and regional high-quality economic development.
