On August 22, 2024, the opening ceremony of the 2024 Summer Camp for Intellectual Property Knowledge Contest for College Students in the Yangtze River Delta Region was held at the Jiangpu Campus of Nanjing Tech University. Representatives of the organizing committee, teachers and students from 12 universities in Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Anhui, expert representatives, and heads of relevant departments of Nanjing Tech University participated in the event. Wu Shenghong, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Nanjing Tech University, and Zhang Weidong, Director of the Publicity and Education Department (Personnel Department) of the Intellectual Property Office of Jiangsu Province, delivered speeches at the opening ceremony.
The Summer Camp was a three-day event where a variety of topic sharing, inquiry learning and research activities were organized. In the topic sharing session, Zhu Xuezhong, a long-term distinguished professor at Shanghai International College of Intellectual Property, shared with the students some cutting-edge and hot topics such as the challenges of AI to the intellectual property (IP) system and their solutions. Experts from the High People’s Court of Jiangsu Province shared with the students how to determine the amount of damages for IP infringement through real legal cases. In the inquiry learning and research session, teachers and students visited China (Nanjing) Intellectual Property Protection Center, “WO DE MAI TIAN” Intellectual Property Public Service Platform, Nanjing Integrated Circuit Innovation Museum and Nanjing Museum to get a sense of the vivid IP protection and service innovation practices, and feel the unique charm of Nanjing’s profound historical legacy and modern industrial development.
It is learned that the Intellectual Property Knowledge Contest for College Students in the Yangtze River Delta Region, beginning in 2023, is jointly sponsored by the Intellectual Property Offices of one city and three provinces (Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Anhui) in the Yangtze River Delta and hosted by the Intellectual Property Office of Jiangsu Province (JSIPO), and aims to enhance the innovation ability of college students in the Yangtze River Delta region, raise the IP awareness of college teachers and students, and promote the training of IP talents. This year, outstanding students from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Zhejiang Sci-Tech University, the University of Science and Technology of China and other universities in the Yangtze River Delta region participated in the summer camp, and will compete in the finals held in Nanjing at the end of September.
