The Intellectual Property Office of Jiangsu Province, together with the Department of Commerce of Jiangsu Province and the Jiangsu Sub-Council of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), recently held the 2026 Jiangsu Training Program on International IP Protection in Nanjing, to implement the State Council’s requirements for strengthening intellectual property (IP) services involving international matters and to build a stronger talent pool for advising on overseas IP disputes. The program brought together 80 professionals from IP, commerce and trade promotion authorities across the province who are responsible for providing guidance on overseas IP disputes. Experts from CCPIT, leading Chinese law firms, and institutions within and outside Jiangsu were invited to deliver lectures.

The program featured two themes: international IP protection and guidance on overseas dispute response, with a strong emphasis on practical knowledge, real-world application, and tangible results. The curriculum combined theoretical instruction, including a course on “Choosing the Right Approach to Resolving International IP Disputes,” with practice-oriented sessions such as case studies and discussions. Key topics included patent portfolio development, patent prosecution, enforcement strategies and risk prevention in Europe, the United States, Japan and the Republic of Korea, as well as overseas trademark risk prevention, portfolio planning and monitoring. Participants also learned how to conduct overseas IP risk analysis, early warning and compliance reviews for businesses in key industries and for key products. Experience sharing and discussion sessions covered IP disputes on cross-border e-commerce platforms and representative cases involving guidance on international IP disputes, helping participants quickly develop the skills needed to advise businesses on managing IP risks in overseas markets.

The training program represents a further step in strengthening Jiangsu’s capacity to advise businesses on overseas IP disputes and provide high-quality professional support for Jiangsu manufacturers with a global presence. It is designed to help participants translate what they’ve learned in the classroom into practical capabilities for tackling real-world challenges, while encouraging more companies operating overseas to resolve IP disputes by making effective use of government and professional resources. In doing so, Jiangsu aims to bridge the “last mile” of IP protection in global markets.

Building on this program, the Intellectual Property Office of Jiangsu Province will continue to deepen reform and innovation in international IP protection and promote integrated services covering overseas risk monitoring, early warning, and dispute response guidance. The aim is to reinforce IP protection to support the global expansion of Jiangsu’s manufacturing sector as well as the high-quality development of the province’s open economy.
